In the not to distant future, when the world's resources become depleted, a new form of economy will emerge. This economy will be a blend of free enterprise and government managed industry. In this economy, the government will compete with private enterprise in a variety of areas. This "hybrid capitalism" will form the foundation for a new economy.
Capitalism is moving the United States economy forward in time. This type of economy relies on the ingenuity of individuals and requires ever-expanding markets to sell goods to new clientele. This expansion increases transportation needs to distribute goods and services. Capitalism in its purest form requires resources that are rapidly becoming scarce. With limits to energy, we are forced to diversify and invest in new and different forms of distribution. Just as we are working toward ways to use gas to its highest potential in a hybrid vehicle, we now need to hybridize the capitalist economy.
